Synoptic Therapy

I use an approach called Synoptic Therapy which integrates various theories and techniques to create a unique and holistic therapeutic experience. The process begins with an in-depth assessment to evaluate your mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual health. The therapeutic process, which is very client-centered, often involves the connection between these states. I consider each client’s broader life context to understand how these factors contribute to their issues and how they can be addressed in therapy.

Sessions could incorporate elements from the following components based on the client’s needs and preferences…

Physical Activity

Movement-Based Therapy is extremely important to mental health. This could include activities such as yoga or simple stretching exercises. Sessions could also take place outdoors, incorporating walking, hiking, or other nature-based activities that promote a connection to the natural world. These activities not only promote physical well-being but also help in grounding the client and connecting the mind and body.

Spirituality

Clients are encouraged to explore their spiritual beliefs and values. This might involve practices like meditation, prayer, or reflection on spiritual texts. Techniques such as mindfulness meditation, guided visualization, or breathing exercises could be used to help clients connect with their inner selves and a sense of higher purpose.

Energy Healing

Incorporating practices such as Reiki, energy balancing, or chakra work could be part of the therapeutic process for those open to these approaches, aiming to cultivate a positive and healing energy flow within the client. This practice could also focus on fostering positive emotions, strengths, and resilience. Techniques like journaling, affirmations, and focusing on successes would be integrated into the sessions.

Sensory Integration

This involves actively engaging the five senses to enhance the therapeutic experience. For example:

Social Connections

Creating and maintaining relationships that foster socialization and a sense of community are integral to achieving happiness. This could include encouraging clients to build supportive relationships outside of therapy and providing service to others in need.

Brainspotting for Trauma

For those dealing with trauma, I use a technique called Brainspotting (BSP) to identify, process, and release physical and emotional distress associated with traumatic experiences. The objective is to access deeper emotional parts of the brain by bypassing conscious thinking and healing underlying trauma that contributes to conditions like anxiety and depression. Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. BSP uses this natural phenomenon through its use of relevant eye positions. This helps locate, focus, process, and release a wide range of emotional and bodily-based conditions. When a Brainspot is stimulated, the deep brain appears to reflexively signal the therapist that the source of the problem has been found.

Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective in trauma-based situations. It can also be used for performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional, and body-based parts of the brain.

Therapy For Teens/Young Adults

I help teens and young adults figure out who they are, where they belong, and how to thrive. Teen and early adult years can be so hard when you don’t believe in yourself when you have few connections, and when you don’t have anyone to relate to. Life can feel overwhelming, but it is possible to feel more in control. Relationships can improve. You can make better decisions. Most importantly, you can feel good about being yourself. I’ve spent numerous hours helping those who struggle with anxiety, depression, the effects of trauma, and low self-worth. My goal is to help you find peace and happiness.

Therapy For Women

I work to build confidence and empower women to overcome a culture plagued with misogyny and oppression. This includes navigating a male-dominated workforce. It may seem strange but believe it or not, a male therapist can be helpful in some unique ways. If you watch enough TV, social media, and news outlets you can see that women aren’t always given great messages from or about men. As a male therapist, I can demonstrate what a healthy male relationship looks like. I work to be a positive male role model for appropriate boundaries, active listening, and being sensitive to feelings. It’s been my experience that girls and women are completely comfortable working with me to address sensitive issues.
